Home › Hope

Hope is where the Fraser Valley ends and the canyon begins, 55 kilometres and about 45 minutes east of Bailey Landfill on Highway 1. Three highways meet there, the Trans-Canada, the Coquihalla and the Hope-Princeton, and the town of 6,686 people grew out of the Hudson's Bay Company's Fort Hope of 1848 and the gold rush a decade later. Most of the housing stock is older: post-war bungalows and 1960s and 1970s houses in the grid below the mountains, with a Rambo statue downtown from the film that put the place on screen in 1982.

The District of Hope runs its own curbside program, with carts belonging to Valley Waste and Recycling and a rule that anything set beside the cart is not collected, so bulky items go to the District of Hope Transfer Station or leave on a truck. Older houses mean older materials, and anything with drywall, floor tile or pipe wrap from before 1990 needs a test before a hauler will load it, whichever landfill it is bound for.

Hope is the far end of the coverage area and is served on grouped route days rather than daily, so the economical call from Hope is a full or half truck: a house clearout, a shop or garage, a renovation's worth of debris. The crew we connect you with will tell you the next route day on the phone and quote the whole load, disposal included, before it is booked.
